And then, come back on Sunday, September 7th, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. when the museum continues its celebration of Florida’s Native American culture and heritage with a special presentation of authentic stories of the Seminole tribe narrated by Van Samuels from the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Seminole Indian Museum.
This two-day event is part of the ongoing “Sea Your History” series at the lighthouse, funded in part by the St. Johns County Tourist Development Council. Both Saturday and Sunday’s presentations will be included with daily general admission of $9.95 for adults and $7.95 for children and seniors. Members of the museum can attend for free.
The September 6th cooking demonstration at the lighthouse will kick off at 12:30 p.m. Hetzler will prepare recipes from the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. The menu includes a grilled watermelon salad with hearts of palm, sunflower crusted black drum, a “three sisters” vegetable relish and Indian pudding with currants. Immediately following the cooking demonstration, Hetzler will be signing copies of the Mitsitam cookbook outside the museum gift shop.
The Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum, located on the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation, is home to more than 30,000 artifacts and archival items. Established in May 2005, the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum is also a member of the Smithsonian Affiliations program along with the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum.
