Sheriff’s Media Relations Officer, Kevin Kelshaw, told local Historic City News reporters, that a 37-year old Lexington, Kentucky man has been arrested on charges of lewd and lascivious behavior against a minor and traveling to meet a minor after using a computer to lure a child over the weekend.
The suspect, identified as Grant A. Bertram, was arrested by members of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force within the Lexington Police Department. He is pending extradition to Florida.
The Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit Detectives began the investigation late last month when the parents of a 16-year old girl discovered what appeared to be a sexual relationship brewing between their daughter and Bertram.
According to the arrest report, Bertram allegedly exploited this child for two years after the two met through an on-line gaming website.
Reportedly on multiple occasions between June of 2013 and September of 2014, Bertram traveled to St. Johns County and allegedly had sex with the juvenile on several of those occasions.
The two also communicated with each other through a cell phone that Bertram provided to the teenager.
The victim became afraid of Bertram after she said he began exercising increased control over her, and sadistic behavior towards her. She told her mother about the affair, who, in turn, notified the Sheriff’s Office.
The Task Force is continuing the investigation.
