Captured this grisly familiar scene for Historic City News after yet another crash on SR-A1A. This one occurred around 8:15 p.m. this evening, just north of R. B. Hunt Elementary School.
St Johns County Fire Rescue responded to the scene; however, the 75-year-old female driver of the vehicle does not appear injured. She did not require hospitalization, however, she was cited by police for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.
The 26-year-old driver of the motorcycle, on the other hand, sustained minor injuries in the collision, according to Jeannette in Police Records at the St Augustine Police Department in an 11:30 a.m. report. He was stabilized and transported by ground to Flagler Hospital for further medical treatment.
Local businessman and Historic City News reader Robert Lichter happened to be at the location, witnessed the crash as it happened, then called E-911. He told local reporters that he stood by until emergency medical personnel arrived, and that the motorcyclist is lucky to be alive.
Our photographer, who travels that section of SR-A1A regularly, asked, “How many bodies must be maimed, or lives lost before the Florida Department of Transportation will implement changes to make this dangerous curve, from Red Cox Drive to Busam Street, safer?“
