The St. Johns County Education Foundation is notifying Historic City News readers that they are looking for volunteers who want to give back, and are interested in being a positive influence in a student’s life through “Take Stock in Children”.
In what could be the first of many new toll roads in Florida, state officials announced to Historic City News yesterday that they are “moving ahead” with a 15-mile project around the St. Johns – Duval County line.
Philosophically, I don’t always agree with other news editors in the area — sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t; however, when I do, I believe it’s appropriate to recognize where we agree since I’ve never been accused of being timid where we don’t.

Dear Editor:
In the Tuesday, August 16th meeting of the St. Augustine Port, Waterway and Beach District, I attempted to gain support from my fellow commissioners to ask other stakeholders to share in the $300,000 dredging bill we are facing this fall.
Historic City News has received a booklet of comments from residents who have asked questions regarding the proposed St. Johns County budget that have been answered by county administration and last revised on August 8, 2011.
St. Augustine Heritage Tourism Director Dana Ste. Claire, informed local Historic City News reporters a number of items on a “conceptual list” of 450th commemoration events under consideration by city officials.
Animal Control Division Chief Paul Studivant announced to local Historic City News reporters that the St. Johns County Animal Control Pet Center will be closed on Friday, August 26th for routine maintenance and in-service staff training.
Coalition Coordinator Heidi Matheny announced to local Historic City News reporters that the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office received an honorable mention, runner up award for the law enforcement agency of the year, at the 13th National Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws Leadership Conference in Orlando.
