This week, St. Augustine unveiled a proposed five-year capital improvement plan for infrastructure spending that totals $79.6 million! This is significantly more than in past years. For our population of approximately 13,000, that represents over $6,100 per person. With stakes that high, it is essential to have the right people overseeing the future of our city’s infrastructure.
In a Sunday morning e-mail from Historic City News reader Kathy Schirmacher, the local news desk received unconfirmed bad news for North City residents that the building department of the City of St Augustine has issued a permit allowing the construction of a controversial 7-Eleven convenience store and gas station at 179 San Marco Avenue.
As someone who’s spent enough decades living in St Augustine, Ponte Vedra Beach, and St Johns County; I can tell you, for a fact, that for a community that lives or dies by retelling the story of First America, we sure seem to be selling a lot of gobbledygook for truth.
