Pilot Club decommissions 68-year-old veteran’s memorial

At exactly 10:00 a.m. Capt. Charles Stratman, USN (retired) rang 4 bells signaling the commencement of the decommissioning ceremony for the decades-old landmark in the northeast corner of the Plaza de la Constitution. The bell was presented to Stratman by the crew of the U.S.S. Tallahatchie County. Stratman held the rank of Lieutenant Commander and was the Executive Officer of the ship.

Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw has informed Historic City News that robbery detectives are searching for a man who was caught on video as he robbed a RaceTrac convenience store night manager, at gunpoint, at 2:20 a.m. yesterday morning.
Sometimes the hype is greater than the bang, such was the case for many festival goers attending last weekend’s Bacon Nation Festival at Francis Field in St Augustine. I was excited for the chance to shake hands with the bacon lady, but overall, it left me limp.
