Local Ties to American Revolutionary War, British Loyalists Highlighted During Sea Your History Weekend at Lighthouse Museum

Professor Richard James Bell from the University of Maryland will headline Sea Your History Weekend, September 20th and 21st at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum.

Although St. Augustine is most commonly known for its Spanish roots, the almost 450 year-old city has a storied British heritage as well. At the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum this weekend, Sept. 20th and 21st, the city’s British history will be highlighted through guided tours, demonstrations, shipwreck artifacts and a keynote speech from the University of Maryland’s Dr. Richard Bell.

Velo Fest Community Initiative will be supporting the 2200 rider strong Bike MS150 this weekend. As riders take to the road on a 179 mile journey starting in Ponte Vedra Beach at TPC Saturday morning, we would like to remind everyone to be extra cautious and take alternative routes to some areas.

Downtown Ron Brown retires as City Attorney

City Manager John Regan shared an inside iggy with the audience of over 100 attendees last night when he introduced the guest of honor during a three-hour retirement celebration for St Augustine City Attorney, Ronald Wayne Brown. Regan says some folks around City Hall get it, but he’s never really explained the nickname “Downtown Ron Brown” before.

At the appointed hour of 3:00 p.m., on Friday, September 12, the order was barked to bring members of the Florida National Guard to attention. Thus began the “Retreat” ceremony. Like a well oiled machine, guard members performed admirably giving credit to the memory of all who proceeded them.
