The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office has responded to a shooting located at the gun range of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 113 near Inman Farm Road.
The victim was discovered at the range by other members who were shooting in separate bays. The victim was found lying on the ground in one of the shooting bays.
Members immediately contacted 9-1-1 requesting assistance.
By the time St. Johns County Fire Rescue personnel arrived, the victim could not be resuscitated, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
“At this time, the incident appears to be self-inflicted and accidental in nature,” Mulligan told Historic City News.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family, the investigation is ongoing.
“We are not certain,” Mulligan said, “if the subject has any law enforcement background or is one of many civilian associate members of the lodge.”
Officers with the FOP organization are researching the files to provide further information.
