The Florida Highway Patrol informed St Johns County reporters with Historic City News that two Jacksonville men were killed and two female passengers were sent to area hospitals with injuries sustained earlier during a one-car collision this morning on State Road A1A in Ponte Vedra Beach.
The driver of the 2005 Chevrolet Impala, 23 year-old Wiley E. Garrett Jr. reportedly crossed the center-line and left the roadway. According to traffic homicide investigators from the scene, the vehicle struck a tree, overturned then caught fire.
Garrett and 24 year-old Ralph Lauder de Los Reyes, died in the accident at about 2:50 a.m. this morning. Both men were wearing a seatbelt.
Two female passengers were also injured in the accident; however, they were able to escape the car while it was on its roof. According to the report, they are 22 year-old Raven Nicole Bishop of Hortense, Georgia and 24 year-old Margareta Tesic of Jacksonville.
Bishop was taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center and Tesic was taken to Baptist Beaches Hospital — both with serious injuries.
Alcohol was believed to be a factor, however, the investigation is continuing and the Medical Examiner will conduct a post mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
