The US Defense Department told Historic City News reporters that the Naval Air Systems Command has awarded a $781.5 million modification to a previously awarded defense contract to Northrop Grumman — the company says nearly 20% of the work will be completed in St Augustine.
For the 965 current employees, and anticipated new hires, who work within the 1.1 million-square-foot facility leased from the Northeast Florida Regional Airport at St Augustine, this comes as great news.
Northrop Grumman won the additional contract for the manufacture and delivery of five E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft.
The Hawkeye is a twin-turboprop, aircraft carrier-capable tactical airborne early warning aircraft.
According to the company, the work should be completed by May 2015.
