Florida Highway Patrol Captain Jerry Crews informed local Historic City News reporters that charges were filed against a school bus driver this morning following a collision that occurred shortly after 7:00 a.m. in the area of Renoir Boulevard and Van Gogh Circle in St Johns.
The two-vehicle collision occurred when the driver of the 1995 International bus, 64-year-old Richard Paproski of St Augustine, observed a student approaching on Van Gogh Circle as he was traveling west on Renoir Boulevard.
Paproski backed the bus up to avoid the student but apparently did not see a 1999 Toyota sedan that was behind him. The bus crashed into the Toyota being driven by 52-year-old David Coleman also of St Augustine, whose vehicle sustained about $1500 in damages.
Although the school bus contained 32 passengers, occupants of both vehicles were unharmed. The bus reportedly sustained about $50 in damages.
Paproski was charged with improper backing, according to Crews’ report.
