County providing emergency sandbags

400-SJC-BOCC-SEAL-LOGOSt Johns County Road and Bridge Department informed Historic City News that until 5:30 p.m. today, residents may obtain up to 50 sandbags in preparation for expected flooding as a result of tropical storm Andrea.

Four public locations are setting up and open now to serve the needs of area residents in low-lying areas around the county.

“Residents must provide their own transportation to these locations,” Communications Specialist Danielle Berke told local reporters. “There is a maximum allocation of 50-bags per person; however, there is no cost for the bags.”

• Palm Valley — under the Palm Valley bridge on the east side of the Intracoastal Waterway

• Collier-Blocker-Puryear Park — the parking lot at the Holmes Boulevard and West King St. intersection

• Town of Hastings — Town Hall, 6195 S. Main St., behind the building

• Mills Field — overflow parking area, 1805 Racetrack Rd.
