Historic City News crime desk reporters were notified that Monday, the Sheriff’s Office received a complaint that a 33-year-old female victim was dropped off at Fire Station 14 on West King Street; she was reporting that she had been sexually assaulted.
According to the incident report, the crime occurred at a West Augustine residence in the early morning hours Monday. When the victim got away, she started making her way down West King Street towards the fire station on foot; but she said that she was able to flag down a passing motorist who offered her a ride.
The victim was transported to Flagler Hospital for treatment and collection of evidence of the crime. She met with Special Victims detectives and explained in more detail what had occurred.
From information gathered during the investigation, detectives prepared a photo-lineup. The victim identified 43-year-old Curtis Leroy Williams who resides at 160 Gilbert Street in St Augustine as her assailant.
Williams was located yesterday afternoon and brought to the Neil J Perry Criminal Justice Complex for questioning about the Monday incident. Based on the evidence gathered, witness statement, and response from the defendant, Williams was taken into custody and is charged with sexual battery and simple battery. He remains in custody in lieu of bonds totaling $25,500.
