Historic City News has been informed that a Matanzas High School student who was born in St Augustine, was arrested this morning after he attacked a Flagler County school resource deputy; following a fight in the school cafeteria, located at 3535 Old Kings Road in Palm Coast.
Lieutenant Bob Weber told local reporters that School Resource Deputy John Landi was injured and the 18-year-old Matanzas High School student, Allen Jerrod Brown, who resides at 128 Bud Hollow Drive in Palm Coast, was shot with a Taser before he was subdued and taken into custody.
At about 7:45 a.m. this morning, Landi and school administrators observed Brown enter the cafeteria and then unexpectedly remove his shirt. Witnesses say Brown walked up to a 15-year-old male student who was sitting at a table eating breakfast. Brown began punching the younger student several times, according to the arrest report.
School administrators and Deputy Landi separated the two students.
After Landi gave clear, verbal commands to stop, Brown squared off with the deputy in a “fighting stance”. According to a statement from Weber, Brown punched the deputy, repeatedly — striking him in the face and knocking him to the ground. The deputy deployed his Taser; striking Brown in the left torso. The student was able to be secured without further incident.
All parties involved sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene by Flagler County Medical and Rescue personnel and released. Parents of both youths were notified of the incident.
Brown is being charged with misdemeanor battery, felony battery on a law enforcement officer, and misdemeanor disruption of a school function. He was booked into the Flagler County Detention Facility where he was held in lieu of $3,500.00 bond.
