Father Thomas S. Willis, pastor at the Cathedral Basilica of St Augustine, has invited all Historic City News readers to join in a day of fasting and prayer for peace in Syria, in the entire Mideast region, and throughout the whole world to be held this coming Saturday, September 7th, 2013.
The Cathedral Parish will observe this day, at the invitation of Pope Francis, with a special Mass beginning at 12:00 noon, followed by adoration of the Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist until 3:00 p.m. In addition, the Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 2:30 p.m. The celebration in St Augustine will coincide with the Pope’s own observance in St Peter’s Square.
“Our Holy Father has asked Catholics, and people of good will, to spend a part of this Saturday in an attitude of vigilant prayer and fasting for peace,” Father Tom told local news reporters. “Pope Francis specifically asked that we gather on this day because it is the vigil day before the feast of the Nativity of Mary, the Queen of Peace. Through her maternal intercession before our Lord in heaven, we will ask that true and lasting peace come to our hearts and our world.”
The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Augustine is located at 38 Cathedral Place in downtown St Augustine. It is home to America’s First Catholic Parish.
