The dead body of the dog was found lying in the woods behind the residence of 59-year-old Charles Edward Allen, 2651 San Juan Drive, in St Augustine. Allen was located walking out of a wooded area near the intersection of San Juan Drive and Cypress Road a short time later, according to the incident report.
Allen has been in-and-out of jail in St Johns County since at least 2006, facing a variety of charges that have included disorderly intoxication, resisting arrest, cocaine possession, traffic arrests, and violation of probation.
Allen told the deputy that he killed the dog because the dog bit him several times.
For his own safety, Allen was transported to Flagler Hospital by the deputy. He was treated and released, then was arrested on felony charges of aggravated animal cruelty and booked into the St Johns County Detention Facility; where he remains in lieu of $25,000 bond.
