At about 4:00 a.m. this morning, St Augustine Beach Police observed a 1997 white Toyota Rav-4 fail to slow down for a construction zone along SR-A1A South, in violation of Florida’s “move over” law. One lane of traffic was blocked off for electrical crews working on the roadway.
St Augustine Beach Police Officer Gillespie stopped the vehicle in the area of SR-A1A South and Acacia Street, and identified the driver as 18-year-old Myles M. Giacosa who resides at 15 D’Allyon Avenue in Saint Augustine.
According to St Augustine Beach Police Chief Robert Hardwick, officer Gillespie reported that he could smell marijuana being emitting from the vehicle.
Once additional units arrived on scene a search was conducted on the vehicle by Officer Cline and Officer Abel.
Subsequent to the search and interview Myles M. Giacosa admitted to ownership of the illegal items located in the vehicle.
During the search, in excess of 120 grams of hash oil, a felony amount of marijuana and other items indicative of manufacturing and sales were discovered inside the vehicle.
Myles M. Giacosa was charged with multiple felonies and transported to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility, where he remains in custody in lieu of $12,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing with potential additional charges forthcoming.
