A man involved in a two-vehicle crash off of Racetrack Road on July 16, died today as a result of his injuries, according to a report received by Historic City News from the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office this afternoon.
The driver of a 1998 Nissan Frontier, 75-year-old Herbert Edward Stafford who lived at 1195 St Johns Parkway in Saint Johns, was not wearing a seat belt when he tried to cross Racetrack Road; traveling south on Bartram Oaks Walk at about 10:15 a.m. last Tuesday.
Stafford struck 28-year-old Victoria Alexis Hartwell of Middleburg, who was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra; traveling eastbound on Racetrack Road.
The crash had closed the intersection for several hours. The drivers were initially transported to Julington Creek Memorial Hospital. Later, Stafford was airlifted to UF Health Jacksonville where he died earlier today.
