In the early morning hours yesterday, Historic City News was informed that a burglar broke into the Welcome Food Mart located at 224 San Marco Avenue in North City; although his identity is unknown, police have provided a surveillance video clip in the hopes that one of our readers may be able to assist.
At about 3:00 a.m., the burglar made entry to the convenience store through an air conditioning duct on the roof.
“His purpose was to break into the Automatic Teller Machine, but he was unsuccessful,” Mark Samson told Historic City News earlier today. “The surveillance camera captured the burglar as he attempted to pry open the front doors to the store, and failed.”
Frustrated and in a hurry to escape before police arrived, the burglar used the pry bar to breakout the glass. In the process, the burglar cut his arm and left a blood trail in his path. He can be seen running through the broken glass door, and north along the covered sidewalk toward Pacific Street.
The St Augustine Police Department is asking for Historic City News reader’s assistance in identifying the person responsible for this crime. If you can identify this person or have any knowledge of this crime please call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-8477 (TIPS). You can remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
