Nicole Jebbia reported to Historic City News that the following programs will be available at the Anastasia Island Library during the month of July.  Some programs are designed for kids while others are aimed at adults.

Exterminator tenting will close City Hall and Lightner

Historic City News readers will find City Hall and the Lightner Museum undergoing termite treatment during the first weekend in July. The entire structure will be tented, necessitating the closure of the building and certain streets in the vicinity.

City of St Augustine announces budget calendar

Meredith Breidenstein, Director of Budget and Performance for the City of St Augustine, reported this year’s budget meeting calendar to Historic City News.  In the coming weeks, several special meetings of the city commission will lead to a final budget being in place by the start of the next fiscal year on October 1, 2017.

Russell Sampson Road closed Monday through Thursday

Russell Sampson Road, from St. Johns Parkway (CR-2209) to east of the SR-9B construction site, will close Monday through Thursday nights (June 19-22) from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., according to an announcement received by Historic City News from FDOT spokesperson Debra Delgado on Friday.

St Johns County Fire Rescue and Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Investigator, Corporal Brian Timmons, informed local Historic City News reporters that the motorcycle rider involved in yesterday afternoon’s crash in South Ponte Vedra Beach has died as a result of his injuries.

When Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Walt Bogdanich, from the New York Times, returned to St Augustine in April, he contacted Historic City News editor Michael Gold as part of his ongoing reporting on the mishandling of the September 2, 2010 homicide investigation of 24-year-old Michelle O’Connell by St Johns County Sheriff David B. Shoar.
