Courthouse gets new name

During a celebration honoring him today; the courthouse will be named for Senior Circuit Judge Richard Watson. The special recognition will be the first order of business for the St. Johns County Commissioners when their meeting opens at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 1.

Tip nets suspect in theft

The father of a burglary victim is being credited with helping the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office track down a suspect in the case that played out over two counties in January. “Our detectives have been investigating the case and getting leads since the incident happened Jan. 24.” Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kevin Kelshaw said Friday.

Lights, camera, action… in America’s oldest city. A movie is being filmed in St. Augustine called “The Year of Easter.” It’s based on a true story about a little Lebanese girl — Yvonne Rice — who grew up in St. Augustine in the 1950s.

An asphalt plant has made life in one St. Johns County neighborhood nasty, brutish and stinky Dominic Nicklo has lived in the St. Augustine Heights area since 1960. But he didn’t know an asphalt plant had moved in until he began to smell the tarry, chemical-laden fumes shortly after the plant opened in 2000.
