Falconer: We are heading in the right direction on homelessness

An annual physical count of homeless individuals is used to gauge the number of persons or families in a community who meet the federal definition of “homeless” as set forth by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The count is accomplished in partnership with community agencies, churches, local government, law enforcement and volunteers, by the St. Johns County Continuum of Care who coordinates the count.

City commissioners Monday approved in a matter of minutes what took a daylong conference to accomplish – a plan to save and restore a historic building, immediately expand public parking and eventually build a quadruplex of residential properties on Granada Street.

Florida’s second annual induction ceremony to the Law Enforcement Officers’ Hall of Fame took place inside Florida’s Capitol Saturday. Together with four other honorees, FDLE Commissioner Rick Swearingen presented an induction commendation to former St. Johns County Sheriff, the late Neil Joseph Perry; accepted by his wife Syd, son Keith, daughter Michele and Melissa Perry May.
