St Augustine Streets and Grounds Manager, Charlene Putz, has alerted Historic City News that the south stretch of Avenida Menendez, from King Street south to St Francis Street, will be closed to traffic beginning Monday, January 13, and continuing through Friday, January 17.

Letter: All veterans connect with Plaza monument

As a Marine veteran and a community activist, I would like to share my opinion about the manner in which the veteran’s monument at the corner of Cathedral Place and Charlotte Street, in the northeast corner of the Plaza de la Constitution, has been obscured by electrical transformers, utility meters, and other fixtures.
Two St Augustine residents, who were discovered illegally occupying a private residence at 131 Palmer Street in St Augustine last week, attracted the attention of police after the city utility department reported that the occupants had spliced into the water main and were stealing water and sewer service.
Historic City News learned that Jon Burpee, who has served as the chief of interpretation for Castillo de San Marcos and Fort Matanzas National Monuments since January 2012, is leaving to begin a new adventure as a Bevinetto Congressional Fellow on January 13th.
The newest city commissioner, who has lived here the least number of years, will chair the “steering committee” that is set to drive the direction of the City of St Augustine government for the next twenty years. Think about that.
