St Augustine Lighthouse Archaeologist, Chuck Meide, told Historic City News that he traveled to Tallahassee recently to challenge claims by scholars, Fletcher Crowe and Anita Spring, that French-occupied Ft Caroline is not actually located near Jacksonville, as we have been led to believe, but rather located along the St Mary’s River in Georgia.
Women of Strength: Past, Present, and Future

The theme for the 14th annual International Women’s Day Celebration, sponsored by the Enterprising Women’s Leadership Institute, was “Women of Strength: Past, Present and Future”, according to a report filed by Historic City News special features contributor, Michael Isam.
St. Johns County Sheriff David Shoar recognized many members of the Sheriff’s Office this evening at the 30th Annual Awards Banquet that was held at the World Golf Village Convention Center.
Laurie Sanderson reported the following St Augustine and St Johns County locations to Historic City News where the Florida Department of Transportation will be conducting roadwork that is expected to have an impact on driving, beginning this morning and continuing through the coming week.
Historic City News has learned that St Johns County has been recognized as a 2014 “Healthy Weight Community Champion” by the Florida Surgeon General for making great progress in decreasing unhealthy weight through policies and best practices that increase physical activity and improve nutrition.
