NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the St. Johns County Insurance Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Supervisor of Elections Training Room, 4455 Avenue A, # 101, St. Augustine, FL 32095.
The story of the arrests of sixteen Rabbis and one administrator responding to the call of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. in St Augustine on June 18, 1964, is not as well-known as it should be, according to Carol Rovinsky who chairs the Justice 1964 Committee of the St Augustine Jewish Historical Society.
Robin Burchfield announced to local Historic City News reporters today that the Executive Director of St Augustine Youth Services has received a prestigious award, naming her “Administrator of the Year” at the 2014 Florida Coalition for Children state conference that was recently held in Tallahassee.
John Valdes, a building contractor specializing in historic restoration, announced to Historic City News today that he will be a candidate for the St Augustine City Commission to “preserve St. Augustine’s historic character” and tackle “the pivotal challenges we face today; that, if not properly addressed, could forever change the character and appeal of the city we love.”
Historic City News has learned that a permit for a 7-Eleven store and gas pumps at May Street and San Marco Avenue has been denied, with a two-week appeal period ending next Monday, according to a report that appeared in today’s St Augustine Report.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Board of County Commissioners and the City of St. Augustine Beach Commissioners will hold a joint special meeting on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. in Conference Room A of the Northeast Florida Regional Airport Conference Center, 4730 Casa Cola Way, St. Augustine, Florida 32095.
Patrician Price cautioned Historic City News readers that, weather permitting, tomorrow, Wednesday, January 22nd, the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve will perform its second ecological prescribed burn of this month from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

St Johns County residents with valid identification are always admitted free of charge to the Oldest House, the Lightner Museum, the Fountain of Youth (special events excluded), the Ximenez-Fatio House, the Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse, City Walks History Mystery Murder Evening Tour and the Hotel Ponce de Leon Legacy Tours at Flagler College. The daily tours and wine tastings at the San Sebastian Winery are free to everyone. Also, admission is free to everyone at the Fort Matanzas National Monument, St Photios Chapel, the Pena-Peck House, the Father Miguel O’Reilly Museum and the Mission Nombre de Dios Museum. Many other local attractions offer discounted admissions to St Johns County residents with valid identification.
