Sartin: Name should be “Veterans Island”

When local resident, A. J. Sartin, a Vietnam veteran and community activist known to many as “The Florida Dude”, heard about a small group of people that met to decide on a name for the stretch of land from Vilano Beach to Mayport, he began a campaign to give people a greater chance to participate in the process.
Department of Public Affairs Director Paul Williamson invited Historic City News readers to attend on October 1 at Flagler College’s Lewis Auditorium when Viva Florida 500 holds its statewide summit in preparation for the 500th anniversary of the founding of Florida by Juan Ponce de Leon in 1513; jointly with the St Augustine 450th Commemoration.
EPIC Community Services reported to Historic City News that the “Light the Plaza for Recovery” event, celebrating individuals in recovery, and promoting the message that treatment is worth it, would be held on Saturday, September 22, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Plaza de la Constitucion.
This morning, Historic City News reporters learned that Lydia Cladek will have 30-years in a federal prison to think about her crimes, which robbed investors of more than $100 million.
Dean takes Women’s Long Board Division

Historic City News was informed that St Augustine resident Jazmine Dean took first place in the Women’s Long Board Division at the 2012 Eastern Surfing Championship in Nags Head, on North Carolina’s Outer Banks yesterday.
