Countdown to 18th annual Nights of Lights
As the start of the 2011-2012 Night of Lights draws closer, there is a noticeable increase of activity in the community as city crews are joined by residents and business owners starting to inspect their lighting displays and their inventory of bulbs.


St. Augustine City Commissioner Nancy Sikes-Kline reported to Historic City News an encouraging update for those readers following the return of passenger rail service through a proposed partnership between AMTRAK and the Florida East Coast Railway.
Linda Murray reported to Historic City News that the West Augustine Career Fair is going on today from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Solomon Calhoun Center, located at 1300 Duval Street in St. Augustine.
Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and Jim Hunt, former governor of North Carolina, hosted a conference attended by more than 100 state university leaders to introduce their essay that calls for an increased role for Web-based education.
When the City of St. Augustine called this afternoon’s workshop to order, an audience of sixty or seventy representatives of various civic, cultural and historic organizations as well as some private citizens responded to the invitation to provide their input on what the mayor called “open mic night”.
Historic City News readers attending this evening’s 5:00 p.m. meeting of the St. Augustine City Commission were entertained by a special presentation of a historically accurate portrait of Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles; painted and presented by his alter ego, Chris Light.
