In this week’s issue of The St. Augustine Report, distributed for the City Department of Public Affairs, George Gardner wrote, “Management of the City’s 450th anniversary will be shifted to a community-based non-profit foundation with expected approval by the City Commission Monday.”
The topic of discussion around the City of St. Augustine recently has centered on the 450th Commemoration, however, the city’s birthday is always one of the most exciting times of the year.
Loren Townsend Zawawi reports that work has begun on Aviles Street in the heart of downtown St. Augustine and she told local Historic City News reporters that she hopes all goes well for the business owners as the facelift continues during the coming weeks.
Penny Halyburton, St. Johns County Supervisor of Elections, wants to remind all Historic City News readers to bring current and valid photo and signature ID when you come in to vote.
Local Historic City News reporters have learned that the United States Army Corps of Engineers has contracted Lowe Engineers of Atlanta to conduct survey work on St. Johns County beaches until the end of October.
Historic City News has learned that the Least Tern nesting colony at Porpoise Point has experienced a very successful year and is being considered as the only successful nesting colony on the northeast coast of Florida.
Jeremy Robshaw, Public Information Officer with St. Johns County Fire Rescue, informed Historic City News local reporters that County emergency personnel and the City of St. Augustine Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire in the 1100 block of 4th Street at approximately 8:00 a.m. this morning.
