Historic City News readers know that holidays are built around traditions and few holidays have more great family traditions than the Fourth of July; great food, outdoor band concerts, a day with friends and family, and of course, fireworks.

Historic City News readers are encouraged to visit St. Johns County beaches for a rare opportunity to view and snap pictures of nesting colonies of Least Terns on the beaches at Porpoise Point, Matanzas Inlet and Summer Haven Inlet.

The City of St. Augustine reported to local Historic City News reporters that they have awarded the Aviles Street Rehabilitation Project to Gibbs & Register, Inc., of Winter Garden in the amount of $206,500.

St. Augustine Visitors and Convention Bureau Communications Director Jay Humphreys told Historic City News that this 4th of July Holiday Weekend will offer great local entertainment and shopping.

“As a rib, a couple of people in the office gave me this name plate,” St. Augustine’s retiring City Manager, Bill Harriss told me. “It’s been on the corner of my desk ever since.”

Deputy J.D. McGinnis, who is handling the investigation of the single vehicle crash on Durbin Creek Boulevard last night, updated local Historic City News reporters this morning on the status of the victim and his examination of available evidence.

Kenya Kelley told local Historic City News reporters that special awards were recently presented to the law enforcement and corrections cadets at the St. Johns River Community College Criminal Justice graduation ceremony.
