Public Affairs Manager Marci A. Larson, reported to Historic City News this morning that the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization has elected St. Augustine Commissioner Nancy Sikes-Kline treasurer and Planning and Building Director Mark Knight vice-chairman of the Technical Coordinating Committee for 2012.

At the December 6th county commission meeting, interim Fire Rescue Chief Carl A. Shank was officially appointed Chief by County Administrator Michael D. Wanchick; who said that he was pleased to recognize Chief Shank’s commitment to the Department and County.

The Ocala Star-Banner reported that officials with the U.S. Postal Service have proposed a cost-cutting plan that would eliminate hundreds of positions at the Gainesville mail processing facility, which currently handles mail for Marion, Alachua and several surrounding counties.

Alison Ratkovic, Clerk of the City of St Augustine, announced to Historic City News and our readers that there are currently three open positions on the city’s advisory boards and committees.

Chuck Prichard escorted Historic City News editor Michael Gold through heavy security this morning as the St Augustine National Marine Training Center celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by several influential Homeland Security leaders.

A Grand Cay resident, William A. “Bill” McClure, is the second candidate to announce his intention to run for the District 3 seat on the St Johns County commission; currently held by 28 year-old chairman Mark Miner and sought by 18 year-old Zachary Proscia Silva.

A Miami Herald reporter in Tallahassee this morning covered a story that was picked up by the Tampa Bay Times and makes local political observers suspect that the current woes facing school board and county commissioners in St Johns County is also playing out across the state.

During this morning’s St. Johns County School Board meeting, there was re-organization and in the workshop that followed, citizens and school board members were clearly put out with recent allegations that they had racist motivations in recommending an updated district map.
