St. Johns County Cultural Council, the county’s designated local arts agency, periodically reports upcoming cultural events to local Historic City News reporters for the benefit of our readers.

Manslaughter charges brought in Shores collision

Historic City News reporters were notified that the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 44 year-old man on charges stemming from a traffic crash on March 20th of this year which claimed the life of Jeanne Aramini, 76, of St. Augustine.

Cuban Independence Day – May 20

Florida Governor Charlie Crist said in a statement to local Historic City News reporters, “Cuban Independence Day is a reminder of the long and difficult fight for a democratic republic in Cuba. However, on the 108th anniversary of Cuba’s independence, our Cuban neighbors continue to face another struggle for freedom under the current dictatorship.”

June meeting announced by local Republican Club

Pat Greenfield, Secretary of The Republican Club of Greater St. Augustine, announced to Historic City News that their organization will meet on Monday, June 14, 2010 at the Northeast Florida Regional Airport at St. Augustine in the former Skybus terminal building.

Historic Resource Review Board appointments

Local Historic City News reporters learned that St. Johns County Environmental Division Historic Resource Coordinator, Robin E. Moore, has been in communication with new and returning members of the Historic Resource Review Board to welcome them aboard.

Sheriff David B. Shoar tells Historic City News local reporters that he is looking forward to Friday night’s 26th Annual Awards Banquet honoring the men and women of the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

Although the meeting is closed to the public, Gwendolyn Duncan, President of the 40th ACCORD, Inc., wants Historic City News readers to know that the first meeting of the newly formed Civil Rights Museum Committee will be held on May 27th.

Collision at dangerous uncontrolled US-1 intersection

While EMT Firefighters and Paramedics worked to stabilize and transport victims of a major two vehicle head-on collision on US-1 north of Bunnell shortly after 5:00 p.m. this evening, Historic City News local reporters were working to discover what happened in the collision.
