Historic City News has been informed that the US Marshal Service has made an arrest in Monday evening’s armed robbery and shooting incident that occurred when a drug deal went wrong in St Johns County, according to Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw.
Acting on a felony warrant, 22-year-old Jermaine Kenneth Brown, Jr., was taken into custody and charged with robbery with a firearm and attempted murder.
The victim, a 19-year-old white male, had arranged to buy drugs from Brown in the parking lot of Moe’s Southwest Grill on SR-13 North. While the victim was sitting in his vehicle, waiting for the alleged drug dealer, he told police that Brown jumped into his back seat and held a gun to his head — demanding “everything he had”.
The victim stated that he grabbed the gun and that the two men struggled with the weapon before it discharged once into the victim’s lower chest. Brown reportedly fled the scene and the victim drove himself to Baptist South Hospital. Police say he was stabilized and flown by air ambulance to UF Health Jacksonville for surgical treatment.
Detectives were able to identify Brown, whose last known address was an apartment on Park Avenue in Orange Park, through witness statements and other investigative techniques. Marshals tracked Brown to an address in Jacksonville, where he was arrested without incident. He was booked into the Duval County Jail on the St Johns County charges.
