In an unusual end to the election of a new St Johns County Property Appraiser, Historic City News verified that political newcomer, Eddie Creamer, Regional President of Ameris Bank and former CEO of Prosperity Bank, wins the seat vacated by Sharon P Outland after two announced opponents fail to qualify.
The opponents, Brad Nelson and Leonard R. Ortagus, each filed initial paperwork with the Supervisor of Elections and each were active candidates. They established campaign bank accounts, and Nelson, who served on the Planning and Zoning Agency for St. Johns County from 2006 until 2015, raised $18,440 in campaign contributions.
Ortagus, who went to work in the property appraiser’s office August 9, 1990, and earned $117,073 annually, plus benefits, never reported raising any campaign contributions.
Nelson and Ortagus withdrew from the race, and Creamer, who raised $104,550 in campaign donations, wins the election by default. Creamer reports spending less than 15% of his contributions.
Creamer’s current community service contributions include; Advisory Council Member for the Florida Highway Patrol; Member of the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce & Economic Development Committee; Member of the Board of Directors for St. Johns Volunteers; Trustee of Flagler College and Chair of the Endowment Committee for Flagler College; Member of the St. Augustine Rotary Club and Leadership Instructor for the Florida School of Banking at the University of Florida.
Creamer earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from The University of West Florida; he also completed the Graduate School of Banking program at Louisiana State University.
Originally from Port St. Joe, Florida, Eddie and his wife, Julie, have made St. Johns County their home for the last 19 years. They have two adult sons, John and Daniel; Eddie treasures time spent with his family when he isn’t working, serving in the community or out running. Eddie has completed seven marathons and five half-marathons and is an American Cancer Society Determination Athlete.
As Property Appraiser, Creamer will earn $128,558 plus benefits annually.
