Dear Editor:
In the September 5, 2012 Weekday Issue of Historic City News, you printed a letter from a reader responding to another letter from Commissioner Bill Leary.
Southwind Construction Corps informed local Historic City News reporters that, for the next two months, the company will be removing approximately 162,000 cubic yards of beach-quality sand from the flood shoal on the north and south of the Vilano Beach Bridge.
The advisory board of the Friends of the Summer Haven River, Inc., will hold a restoration benefit this weekend, according to a report from Linda Ginn received by Historic City News this week.
The state Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments this morning in a case that could boost the paychecks of more than a half-million teachers, police, firefighters and other state and local workers.
Around noon today, a 37-year-old St Augustine man was taken to the hospital after being apparently bitten by a shark off St Augustine Beach near “E” Street, according to a report received by Historic City News this afternoon.

Letter: Amendment not about religious freedom

Dear Editor:
I am an opponent of Amendment 8, the so-called “religious freedom” amendment to the Florida Constitution.
Rather than strengthening the separation of church and state, the amendment will undermine it by allowing tax funding of private religious organizations.
