Air support and a bloodhound from the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office are assisting in the search for a disabled 25-year-old woman whose mother reported her missing from their home this morning. Historic City News readers are being asked to report any information concerning her whereabouts.
Forty years ago on January 23, 1974, in broad daylight, during a savage and incredibly brutal act in one of the city’s most established neighborhoods, Athalia Ponsell Lindsley, the estranged wife of St Augustine mayor James Lindsley, was hacked to death with a sharp machete — a horrifying murder which haunts the community to this day.

Laurie Sanderson reported the following St Augustine and St Johns County locations to Historic City News where the Florida Department of Transportation will be conducting roadwork that is expected to have an impact on driving, beginning this morning and continuing through the coming week.
Historic City News was informed that a KIA Sorento SUV, headed southbound on Joe Ashton Road, left the roadway this morning after traveling through a curve and struck a tree. The driver, a 22-year-old St Johns County woman, did not survive the crash, according to Sheriff’s spokesman Kevin Kelshaw.
