One of the nation’s largest consumer debt buyers, Asset Acceptance, LLC, agreed to pay a $2.5 million civil penalty to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that it made a range of misrepresentations when trying to collect old debts — Historic City News found some of those cases here in St Augustine and St Johns County.
SNL Financial LC, a financial information firm headquartered in Charlottesville, Virginia, reported to Historic City News that Orange Park-based Heritage Bank of North Florida, with a second location in St Johns County, had the lowest “Tier 1” risk-based ratio of Florida banks coming into the first quarter of this year.
Governor Rick Scott and Northrop Grumman Corporation announced to Historic City News, in a joint announcement, that the company is designating five “centers of excellence” across the country; two of which will be in Florida — with one here in St Augustine.

Morris Publishing, after emerging from bankruptcy last year, has been maintaining a virtually empty complex at the St Augustine Record – Florida Times Union building; moving its publishing operation to Jacksonville — but that may be over soon, according to a source close to discussions with Gannett, the national media organization that may be best known as the publisher of USA TODAY.
