Dear Historic City News:
I am heartsick to hear that the City of St. Augustine has voted to remove the Solder’s Cenotaph in the historic Plaza de la Constitucion and that the city manager has the names on the memorial boxed up in plywood. This is extreme desecration and disgraceful.

How is it that the bright minds elected to our city and county commissions are either too clueless or disconnected from reality to understand that tourists, and some residents, are confused about their jurisdictional boundaries?
On Monday June 22,2020, Mayor Tracy Upchurch along with Commissioners Nancy Sikes-Kline and Leanna Freeman voted to banish the names of 46 deceased US veteran soldiers because of the war that they died in.

I am a veteran teacher of 25 years. At my school, we have a motto – “Do the good, learn the true, and love the beautiful” – that we say every day. I try to lead my students by example, and it is the “do the good” part of the motto that keeps echoing in my head.

I look back on 40-years of Republican Party affiliation, long before the Party was popular in northeast Florida, and wonder what the folks who taught me what it meant to be self-sufficient, accountable, and to strive to be a good citizen, would have to say about the politicians who hold themselves out to be “Republicans” in today’s world.

Your recent editorial condemning Rev. Ron Rawls and his ministry of education conveys your own bigotry and racist orientation.
Ronald Rawls in his own disturbed state of mind attempting to agitate black citizens to cause violence in peaceful neighborhoods and at peaceful businesses, unless they are black-owned.
