The Florida Board of Education yesterday selected Deputy St Johns County School Superintendent, Pam Stewart, to be interim education commissioner when Gerard Robinson leaves on August 31.

The re-election campaign of County Commissioner Ken Bryan, who championed extending drinking hours, and who, as a result, won favor with bar owners in both St Augustine and St Augustine Beach, is in political debt to controversial wheeler-dealer Philip McDaniel and Historic City News readers are asking when McDaniel will come to collect.

With all the hoopla yesterday over Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day, and the controversial anti-gay implications appertaining thereto, Historic City News in St Augustine intentionally chose not to run a story documenting the crowds of guests in the local restaurant; however, when one long time reader sent us this photo, we couldn’t resist.

A movie theater, distillery, bar, and expanded law offices go before the city’s Planning and Zoning Board next Tuesday; according to a recap published by former St Augustine Mayor George Gardner in his newsletter, The St Augustine Report.

Every-other year, the landscape of St Augustine and St Johns County is attacked by political signs and banners that do little more than add to eye pollution, distract drivers, and, not the least of which, violate state election laws and local ordinances.
