City manager John Regan reports from the St. Johns County’s Emergency Operations Center to Historic City News this morning that Florida Power and Light has restored power to 3,790 customers as of 8:00 a.m. All total, there were 9,200 FPL customers in the city who were without power. Maj. Gen. Michael Calhoun, the Adjutant General of Florida, told local Historic City News reporters that there are currently more than 8,000 Soldiers and Airmen conducting search and rescue operations, supply distribution points, and shelter management operations throughout the state in support of local and state agencies recovering from Hurricane Irma.
In anticipation of Hurricane Irma, St Johns County law enforcement agencies have announced to Historic City News that they will enforce a curfew that will be in effect from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. nightly beginning Sunday, September 10th.
The City of St. Augustine reported to Historic City News that the budget hearings scheduled for Thursday, September 7th have been cancelled and will be rescheduled as soon as possible.
In preparation for Hurricane Irma and the impacts it could have on our community, Historic City News was informed that all administrative offices for St. Johns County, the City of St. Augustine, and the City of St. Augustine Beach will be closed Friday, September 8th.
Historic City News was notified that, due to Hurricane Irma, Chief Judge Raul A. Zambrano has ordered the closure of all courthouses in the 7th Judicial Circuit, effective 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 7th, until 8:00 a.m., on Wednesday September 13th.
A spokesperson for a group calling themselves “Protectors of the Plaza” contacted the City Attorney, staff members, members of the commission and members of the media tonight to complain that Vice-Mayor Todd Neville has been “spending time” with Jamie Perkins; an activist in the ongoing debate calling for the removal of the St. Augustine confederate monument in the Plaza de la Constitution.
The settlement between the City of St Augustine and the plaintiff artists, Bruce Kevin Bates, Elena Hecht, Kate Merrick, and Helena Sala, has moved one step closer to final approval by the St Augustine City Commission.
