Letter: Say no to smart meters

Dear Editor:
I just received a notice from the Florida Power & Light Company advising me that they will be installing a “Smart Meter” on my home in a few weeks.
Historic City News has learned that a St Augustine man has surrendered to SWAT after barricading himself in a home in the Eagle Creek subdivision this morning; he remains in custody in the St Johns County Detention Facility without bond.
Historic City News reporters have been introduced to a first-time-ever convenience for voters beginning at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning; made available by the St Johns County Supervisor of Elections, Vicky Oakes.
Millions of dollars of private funds, and government tax dollars, are spent each year in search of the Holy Grail that will deliver the prosperity that comes from economic development in St Augustine and St Johns County — something every politician is promising but few will admit what will have to happen first.
Whetstone Chocolates located at 139 King Street in St Augustine, has informed local Historic City News reporters that they will debut the “Chocolate Meltdown” gown that won first place on the runway at the Festival of Chocolate competition during the First Friday Art Walk on November 2.
Target, a major retailer of dry goods and soft lines, sometimes referred to as an “upscale Walmart”, has included St Augustine in its group of store locations that have been upgraded and remodeled to expand their fresh food selection.
St Augustine Fire Chief Mike Arnold, the city’s emergency preparedness official, reported to Historic City News that as Hurricane Sandy continues to move north out of the Caribbean, the city is engaged in standard storm preparedness procedures.
St Johns County Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes reminds Historic City News readers that this Saturday morning, October 27, at 7:00 a.m., the doors will open for in-person voting of ballots in the Presidential General Election at six convenient locations.
