Historic City News will be reporting on three separate resolutions that come before the St Augustine City Commission on Monday evening. Two marine issues will be discussed; a resolution to fund Salt Run dredging and another authorizing a plan for derelict vessel removal. Also on the table, community shareholders and the developer of Flagler Crossing will continue the debate over rezoning the North City property.

Every year in January, Brenda Parker returns to the community where she and her husband Ron were living in 1975. The young couple moved to St Augustine from their home in New Jersey where Ron served as one of the youngest members of his police department. He was 27 years old.
During the first meeting of the new year, Historic City News reporters will be watching Monday evening when St Augustine city commissioners consider five new ordinances on first reading. If approved, the ordinances will advance to public hearing and final action at a later time, typically at the following meeting.
A St Johns County Sheriff’s Office spokesman reported to Historic City News that a Walgreens employee was arrested Thursday after she stole more than 200 prescription pills from the pharmacy’s store located on CR-210 West.
Since the early settlement of St. Augustine, people have been putting down roots and creating neighborhoods. St. Augustine has seven that are unique and have such historical significance that they have been listed as National Register Historic Districts. These old neighborhoods continue to be vibrant places to live and make St Augustine not just a tourist destination but a livable city.
There will be two speakers of interest before the St Johns County Civic Association Roundtable, when they convene Monday, January 13th at 9:00 a.m. Important Information will be presented on the Census and Water Issues for residents of St Johns County.

A St. Augustine man was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday, months after being convicted of attempted first-degree murder of a St. Johns County Sheriff’s Deputy, according to sheriff’s office records. Brad Germain, 42, was convicted in November after the State Attorney’s Office said he attempted to murder a deputy with a homemade pipe gun.
