Saturday a day for Republicans in St. Johns County

By 1:00 p.m. this afternoon, some of our area’s best known Republican leaders, elected officials, members of the county’s local Republican clubs, as well as residents who wanted to meet the candidates that may soon represent them, converged for the Grand Opening of the office of the St. Johns County Republican Party.

4th annual civil rights group luncheon a sell-out

Gwendolyn Duncan, President of the 40th Anniversary to Commemorate the Civil Rights Demonstrations, Inc., described the 4th Annual ACCORD Freedom Trail Luncheon to local Historic City News reporters “as a mini-reunion of sorts — reuniting comrades of the Civil Rights Movement in the Nation’s Oldest City.”

Rogers retires after eleven years of city service

After completing eleven years of service to the City of St. Augustine, City Clerk Karen Rogers announced her intention to retire during the last City Commission meeting two weeks ago.

Jacksonville – St. Augustine commuter rail study

At the regular St. Augustine City Commission meeting scheduled for Monday night, Historic City News has learned that Regional Transportation Planner James Boyle will present information taken from the 2009 Final First Coast Commuter Rail Feasibility Study prepared by Gannett Fleming for the Jacksonville Transportation Authority.

Annual Bridge of Lions 5K Run – July 17th

The City of St. Augustine has announced to Historic City News local reporters that the annual Bridge of Lions 5K Run will likely affect traffic in the Davis Shores neighborhoods once it is underway on Saturday, July 17th.

Without Opposition: Kelly Barrera

Ponte Vedra Beach resident Kelly Barrera began with the National Safety Commission in 2003 as Vice President of Scheduling Operations. She is responsible for planning and overseeing classroom, instructor and scheduling operations.

Wildwood collision leaves 18 year-old girl dead

Just after 2:30 this afternoon, Historic City News reporters were notified of a two vehicle, head-on collision that occurred on Wildwood Drive at South Winter Hawk Drive.

St. Johns County says beach tar balls non-toxic

Historic City News has been informed that a small number of tar balls were found today on a beach in southern St. Johns County; according to County Spokesperson Karen Pan.
