Hurricane Irma is moving toward the west-northwest at 16 mph, and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days, according to reports received by Historic City News at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday September 6, 2017.

Jimmy Osceola wins statewide native art competition

An oil painting created by artist Jimmy Osceola depicting Seminoles at Lake Okeechobee won the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service poster contest in August, according to an announcement received by local Historic City News reporters. The theme of the competition was “Water is the Essential Element.”

Courthouses in the 7th Judicial Circuit will close

Historic City News was notified that, due to Hurricane Irma, Chief Judge Raul A. Zambrano has ordered the closure of all courthouses in the 7th Judicial Circuit, effective 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 7th, until 8:00 a.m., on Wednesday September 13th.

City of St Augustine provides free sandbags

Starting tomorrow, Thursday, September 7, the City of St. Augustine will provide free sandbags beginning at 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Francis Field on West Castillo Drive for the public in preparation for Hurricane Irma.
