Carla Traister and Rabbi Merrill Shapiro informed Historic City News that the Flagler County Family Assistance Center will open their “cold weather” shelter at First United Methodist Church of Bunnell tonight.
The Velo Fest Community Initiative reported to Historic City News in St Augustine that they will be installing a Ghost Bike in memory of Christian Schroom at the corner of Arredondo and Anastasia Boulevard on Saturday, November 24th at 3:00 p.m.
St Johns County Sheriff David Shoar informed Historic City News reporters in St Augustine that the skeletal remains located earlier this year near McCullough Creek, have been positively identified through DNA testing as those of Leigh Hobart Abel Jr.
As is customary to honor the memory of former mayors and commissioners as well as recipients of the two highest honors offered by the City of St Augustine, Historic City News reports that the flags at City Hall were lowered to half-staff yesterday in tribute to Jerry Kass.
Historic City News reporters watched as the City of St Augustine remembered a little of its own history last night when Mayor Joe Boles invited two former mayors to launch this year’s holiday lighting — one who lead the city during its 400th anniversary in 1965, and another who flipped-the-switch the very first year of the Nights of Lights in 1994.
Donna Lueders, Executive Director of the St Johns County Education Foundation, accepted a generous $3,000 donation for the “Arts Alive” program last week, during a Family Music Legacy concert presented by The Gamble Rogers Folk Festival.
