Should elected officials vote in city business with their donors?

David Lowther

Dear Editor:
These were my comments to the St Augustine City Commission Monday night. My questions were not answered. My concerns were ignored by four people who are supposed to be representing me and following the law.
On October 3rd last year, Historic City News reported that Florida Governor Rick Scott had signed an executive order directing that Central Florida prosecutor Jeffrey L. Ashton, come to St Augustine to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Michelle O’Connell and the subsequent investigation led by St Johns County Sheriff David B Shoar.

Dear editor:
It’s Saturday morning and that means cartoons and laughter! I’ve got a good one for you: One of our city commissioners asked the University of Florida to “assess potential community benefits of the [Dow PUD] proposal”.

When my wife and I read an ad in The St Augustine Record about the book celebrating 450 years of St. Augustine, we rushed down to their office and bought two copies. I was delighted with the book and felt it was well worth the money spent.

Dear Editor:
I applaud the county commission for its unanimous vote August 4th for the removal of the “free speech area” sign at Pier Park. Free speech is practiced by all American citizens every day without us ever thinking about it.
Less than 30 days to go and we want to test our reader’s extrasensory perception. We are asking Historic City News readers to “look into the future” and report, either here or by e-mail, what effect, if any, they believe the 450th Anniversary will have on their business or employment.
