Historic City News has learned that St Johns County Chamber of Commerce Government Relations Manager, Carol Saviak, has been re-appointed to the Federal Judicial Nominating Commission for the Middle District of Florida, from an announcement by United States Senators Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio.

Admiral Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles informed local Historic City News reporters that a landing and anniversary commemoration will be held at Mission Nombre De Dios on Saturday, September 7th; celebrating the founding of St Augustine, four-hundred and forty-eight years ago.

The St. Johns County School District announced to Historic City News that a district-wide orientation will be held on Friday, August 16th from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Orientation is an opportunity for students and parents to get a supply list, class schedules, and meet teachers.

Guard furlough days reduced By Michael Isam Adjutant General of Florida, Maj. Gen. Emmett Titshaw Jr., had good news as he addressed civilians and technician personnel of the Florida National Guard recently to announce further reductions in the number of required non-paid furlough days.

A recent entry in the Historic City News in Photos contest, sponsored by Computer Doctors, comes from Randolph Weedman of St Augustine — his subject was a rare albino male peacock which he discovered at the Fountain of Youth Archeological Park.
