We received a complaint from a reader; a complaint concerning Historic City News as well as The Record and the St. Johns County Clerk of Court who publish information about applicants for local marriage licenses.

I suppose today is a lot like November 22nd to me – a day that I will always remember “where I was” when tragedy struck.

Historic City News followed the District 1 race for County Commissioner very closely during the Primary Election and in making our editorial endorsements we looked at all three candidates, focusing on the two Republicans who faced off in August.

After Tuesday’s victory by Mark Miner, Historic City News contacted the Commissioner Elect for his thoughts on the campaign and his future role as a commissioner.

State Attorney John Tanner had the 7th Circuit Court issue a warrant today for the arrest of Tropical Storm Fay alleging that “with willful intent and malice aforethought” Fay has destroyed literally hundreds of his political campaign signs — signs which Tanner warned were not to be tampered with or vandalized.

I am pleased to report that, by just a few minutes, I was able to beat County Commissioner Ron Sanchez and am therefore able to claim the first early ballot cast in the Supervisor of Elections Office for this year’s important Primary Election.

This has been an interesting election year for local campaigns — we’ve observed some similarities to past campaigns and seen several new twists on tricks learned by old dogs; not all of which were necessarily a “good thing”.
