Historic City News reporters are often surprised at the types of expenditures and shenanigans that glide in and out of city and county commission meetings with full approval; and, completely under the radar through a portentous bit of parliamentary procedure known as the “consent agenda”.

The first meeting of the St Augustine City Commission is a workshop at 4:00 p.m. to discuss the municipal carpet golf facility, followed by the regular business meeting beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Ten minutes has been allocated to local real estate broker, Irene Arriola, during the General Public Presentations agenda for Monday evening’s meeting of the St Augustine City Commission; at which time Historic City News readers will hear about a contract for purchase of the 102 Bridge Street building.

Without debate or dissent, the House unanimously sent Gov. Rick Scott a bill forbidding random use of unmanned drone aircraft in police surveillance Wednesday.

Yesterday morning, Historic City News was notified that the Florida Faith and Freedom Coalition hosted a Legislative Prayer Breakfast in Tallahassee; Attorney General Pam Bondi, Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater, Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam, and Coalition Chairman Ralph Reed were in attendance.

Historic City News has been following Bills moving through the Legislature that would create new public records exemptions for things like voter email addresses, property insurance underwriting policies, and the data that determines 50 percent of teacher evaluations.

No longer with Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll at his side, yesterday afternoon, Governor Rick Scott signed into law House Bill 155; the legislative response to a three-year federal and state investigation into illegal gambling at Internet cafes affiliated with St Augustine-based Allied Veterans of the World.
