St Johns County District 1 Commissioner Jimmy Johns announced to local Historic City News reporters today that he has filed to run for Congressional District 6; the seat being vacated by Congressman Ron DeSantis who is making a run for Florida governor.

Today, Historic City News received statements from Speaker Richard Corcoran and Minority Leader-designate Kionne McGhee after passage of HB- 67 to establish the Florida Slavery Memorial, which recognizes the fundamental injustice, cruelty, brutality, and inhumanity of slavery in the United States.

Historic City News was informed that St Augustine Beach Commissioner Maggie Koskta was summoned to appear before the Municipal Code Enforcement Board of the City of St. Augustine Beach on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in the City Commission Meeting Room at City Hall, 2200 State Road A1A South, St. Augustine Beach.

Historic City News readers will be watching next Monday, January 22, 2018, when the St Augustine City Commission hears seven recommendations to fill volunteer positions on the Confederate Memorial Contextualization Advisory Committee.

In a move that started today’s special meeting for the St Augustine City Commission with an unexpected bang, the annual evaluation of the city manager began with Seat 4 Commissioner Todd Neville calling for a change in leadership for the city.
