McDaniel Award presented

On April 30, 2009 St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Detective Shannon Andrews received the Mellie McDaniel Award from the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

Blocked Party this Saturday

West King Street merchants will be holding a “Blocked Party” on Saturday, May 16th from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. which promises to feature the spirit of West King Street’s history and unique shops.

The St Johns County Sheriff’s Office announced to Historic City News today that they are joining with hundreds of other law enforcement agencies across the country during the 2009 Click It or Ticket mobilization.

Missing woman sought

Sgt. Chuck Mulligan reported to Historic City News that the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the disappearance of a 77 year-old missing/endangered woman from the 3000 block of Calle Cortez Road, in southern St. Johns County.

450th planning begins with June meeting

City 450 Director Dana Ste. Claire, in his first update to commissioners on planning for our 500/450 commemorations, said strategic planning will begin in June with a meeting of the Mayor’s 14-member Working Group and Consultant Jeanne Zeidler.

City considering skate park regulations

A sound wave attenuation system or fence, adjustment of skate park hours, and day and night staffing of the newly opened Hamilton Upchurch Park are under review following three dozen complaints in the two weeks since its opening.

Mayor seeking lease of historic properties

Mayor Joe Boles plans to present a resolution to the City Commission seeking a 99-year lease from the state on its 34 historic properties here as part of a commitment to provide land for a proposed Castillo orientation center on the Colonial Spanish Quarter grounds.

Visual artists awarded limited injunction

Monday, May 11, 2009, United States District Judge Marcia Morales Howard temporarily lifted the ban on “visual artists” selling their works in the Plaza de la Constitución.
